Michael Grieve is a photographer, founder/director of Werkstatt Berlin and Werkstatt Editions, and founder/director of ArtFotoMode. In 1997 he graduated with an MA in Photographic Studies from the University of Westminster and then proceeded to work as a photojournalist and portrait photographer for publications internationally and is a member of Agence VU in Paris. He was the deputy editor of 1000 Words Contemporary Photography Magazine (2010-15) and a writer for the British Journal of Photography (2009-2022). Since 2011 he has been a senior lecturer at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, lecturer at the Akademia Fotografii in Poland, the University of Art and Design in Berlin, and a lecturer at Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin (2018-23). In 2016 he founded ArtFotoMode, organising international photography workshops. In 2022 he founded Werkstatt Berlin, a school of documentary + art photography, and in 2025 founded Werkstatt Editions together with Theofanis Dalezios and will start publishing photobooks in 2026. He continues to work on long term photographic projects. Based in Berlin and Athens.
